Amphitheatre and Enlightenment Centre Opening Ceremony
26 November marked the official opening of the Lee Shau Kee Peace Education Centre and the kick-off of Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPCUWC)’s 30th Anniversary and United World Colleges Hong Kong Committee Ltd (UWCHK)’s 50th Anniversary in the college year 2022-23.
“Since opening in 1992, this College has received over 6 000 students, representing a total of more than 150 different nationalities. This statistic, alone, reflects the school’s important role in strengthening Hong Kong’s position as a global city,”- said guest of honour, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, GBS, IDSM, JP (Chief Secretary for Administration, HKSAR).
As part of the celebrations, some alumni from LPCUWC & from other UWC schools and Colleges and current LPCUWC students hosted multiple sharings about their involvement in related work fields or Quan Cai activities at the College of the below activities. Pictures of the event can be viewed here.
Activities Programme
Sino Japan Youth Conference (SJYC)
Since 2008 SJYC has been bringing together youth in the East Asian region, building up a network of changemakers who strive for peace through mutual understanding.
Initiative for Peace (IFP)
Peacebuilding at UWCs is achieved primarily through building connections and celebrating difference, not only within the campus but across communities. Gain insight to how student groups like IFP create youth events to learn from and with students around the world.
Peace Impact Stories
In separate conversations featuring a conflict specialist, an academic and a policy expert, we reflected on the significance of peace in various contexts.

Youth Plus Mission (YPM)
UWCHK has nominated students to almost every UWC around the world. This exhibit included a chat with students and alumni about the 18 UWCs, and redeeming dedicated NFT pieces by an alumni artist. Celebrate UWCHK students past and present by appreciating their “home away from home”.
Chinese Painting / Calligraphy
This session gave visitors a chance to experience one of the College’s Quan Cai activities and learn more about Chinese culture by joining our students to create 'own' masterpiece with a Chinese brush!
Social Innovation Network Group (SING)
SING advocates entrepreneurship and innovation, developing students’ creative, communicative, risk-taking and enterprising qualities.
Mount Everest / Antarctica 2041
This session was an opportunity to learn about how the UWC education inspired three alumni to undertake some intrepid expeditions.
Green Pioneers for Sustainability (GPS)
GPS is a student initiative promoting sustainability at LPC and local school communities.
Marine Sustainability
Alumni shared how their involvement in the Coral Monitoring / Marine Sustainability activity has influenced their studies, career choices and/or personal involvements in relation to environmental protection.
Sustainability Impact Stories
Alumni shared how the UWC mission sparked further work in sustainability fields.
SOS Villages
Students and alumni shared the connection that LPC has with SOS villages in the Philippines.
ICYCLE (Community Service & Education)
Economics teacher Esther Chau has been leading a range of Community service activities on campus since she joined the college in 1993. She currently runs ICYCLE.
United World Schools (UWS)
UWS is an organization working to build schools in rural Asia. Our student service group raises funds, awareness and supplies towards this cause.
Students Against Slavery (SAS) / 24 hour Race
SAS is a well established Quan Cai activity which raises awareness of modern-day slavery.
Working with Domestic Workers (WDW)
WDW is a student community service group at LPCUWC. Carrying on the work of previous iterations of this service, these students support and raise awareness towards an often overlooked group in Hong Kong.
Refugee Relief
The Refugee Relief group aims to improve the situation of refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong. The speakers shared their experiences as UWC alum and in their work with refugees, followed by Q&A facilitated by the Refugee Relief student group.
Community Projects
The sharings zero in on the UWC core value of “compassion and service,” showcasing how students and alumni have sparked initiatives for social good.
Global Issues Forum (GIF)
The Global Issues Forum is a signature experience in LPC & UWC life. Through exploring various issues/topics from a range of different perspectives,

Two alumni shared how their UWC experience impacted the work they are undertaking in relation to wellbeing.
